How to Create Balance with Yin & Yang

img_5770

Life is all about finding balance. You can achieve harmony in your relationships, and within, by representing yin and yang elements in your space. Yin is the feminine energy represented by dark colors, and soft textures and lighting. Yang is the masculine energy represented by bright colors and patterns, sharp edges, and bright lighting.

Some rooms of your home will benefit more from Yin energy, such as your bedroom where you want to rest. The kitchen is a livelier space where you can have more Yang. Regardless, it’s always good to have a little balance. It was not planned, but I noticed this photo of my husband and I somewhat illustrates this concept. The Yin, feminine, is on the left and represented with black. Yang, the masculine, is on the right and represented with white. Both are equally important. Without the darkness there cannot be light. We all possess both energies, regardless of our gender. However, when sleeping it is best for the woman to sleep in the feminine side (left) and man to sleep on the masculine (right) to keep the relationship in optimal balance. ✨

How to Attract What You Want with Your Home Decor

I just couldn’t take it any more!  My feng shui journey with with elements started at my South Loop apartment in Chicago. It all began with the bland, white wall in which my husband and I stared at as we watched TV.  The wall was over 20 feet high, and I just could not seem to get the “right” pictures or wall decor to fit the space.  It felt very cold and plain.

I had heard of feng shui before, so I decided to look into it before I selected a paint color for the walls.  As I conducted some “Google research”, I learned that our living room was in the wealth area of our apartment and it would be activated by the wood elements.  In addition, water represents money and nourishes the wood element.

This was my first experience with applying feng shui to a room, and I have not looked back since!  After applying the elements, the room simply came together!  I felt like I became the star of my very own home makeover show, and all I wanted to do was continue to apply feng shui to other areas of our apartment so that it felt more welcoming.  Each time I applied the appropriate elements to the specific gua, or area, of the home, I felt more and more at peace in my space.  Life at home was much more tranquil, and I even started to feel more energy at work.

So, did the elemental application to the wealth area work?  You bet it did!  My husband got a new job offer less than a year later. It was a significant raise and it gave us the opportunity to expand into the next chapter of our lives which included starting a family and moving into our first house!

I have since become a certified feng shui consultant, and now I am here to share how you too can transform your life with the decor you choose. You can remove the stumbling blocks of your life by consciously decorating your home, office, or classroom. There are three steps you can try today to apply elemental cures to your space and get the results you desire right now!

Three Steps to Improving Your Home with the Elements

You’ve cleared out your space and made room for the new.  Now, it is time to really activate the energy of the space.  Remember, there are nine areas of your life in which you can focus on.  For the next exercise, I would highly recommend starting with one gua, or area, to get you started.  Of course we all would like to focus on all nine areas, and ultimately that is the goal of feng shui, for all nine spaces to work in harmony. However, it is best to focus on on one room at a time.

Step One:  Lay the bagua map (See image below) on the floor plan of your home.  The bottom of the map should be in line with the front door, so you would be entering into Knowledge, Career, or Helpful people sections.

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-9-16-51-pm

Step Two: Identify the area you want to work on (one space at a time is recommended).  De-clutter and spend time in that space. After that, you can get started making adjustments and decorating according to the elements!  Use the shape, color, or actual element associated with that gua in order to activate the space and improve that area of your home and life!

Decor Suggestions to Represent Each Element:

  1. Earth:  Square or rectangular (horizontal) picture frames, yellow throw blanket or accent pillows, sand colored towels, sand or rocks in a square dish, a salt lamp, fresh flowers or fake flowers that look real
  2. Water: picture of the ocean, fish tank, water fountain, thunderstorm or ocean sounds, mirrors, purple drapes
  3. Fire: candles, fireplace, picture with reds or bright orange, Christmas Tree, triangular patterns, knives, weapons, fur, leather, feathers
  4. Wood: Rectangular frames (vertical), wooden sculptures or dishes, wood furniture, bamboo plant, money tree, bonsai tree
  5. Metal: Metal dishes, circular frames or clocks, metallic artwork, gray or white throw pillows or curtains

Step Three: Make changes with the intention in mind of what you want to create for yourself.  Seal this intention with a silent prayer or a mantra.  This is covered in greater detail in my next post!

There are endless possibilities when it comes to decorating with feng shui, and that is what makes it so much fun.  You will be shocked at how simple it is. It’s easy to over-think it and wonder if you are doing it right, but there is no need to worry.  Just give it a try and as you start to feel the difference, you will become more and more confident in making adjustments throughout your home.

With greatest sincerity, I want to thank you for taking the time to browse this post.  I have found feng shui to be uplifting and completely life changing, and I hope you can too. I am currently working on a book called “Teaching from the Heart with Feng Shui.” Not only does it cover the basics of feng shui, but it also gives suggestions on how to apply these principles to your classroom or office so that you can feel the ultimate flow from your personal to your professional life. If you are interested in how to apply the elements in your work space, please let me know.  I would love to answer any questions you may have, and I also appreciate any feedback since some of these posts will be published some day!

How to Feng Shui Your Closet

When I get ready for any occasion, I always think about the kind of vibe I want to give off or how I want to feel.  According to feng shui, all colors radiate different vibrations and enhance different emotions.  Here is a quick look at what the colors represent so that you are ready to move forward confidently at your next job interview or date.  Knowing what color is best to wear will simply help elevate your energy, and who doesn’t want that, right?

Let’s talk about red! It is the most energetic color in the feng shui. Red is a great color to wear at a job interview or to an important meeting.  Red says, “I know what I’m doing.  I am confident, and you should take me seriously.” Red is a fire color, so it represents passion.  You could wear red if you are looking to attract more passion in your relationship, or to “spark things up” in your career.

Yellow represents the Earth element and good health. Yellow is a great color to wear to enhance your immune system.  It also goes without saying that yellow is a cheerful color and it can uplift your emotional wellness too. In general, yellow is associated with friendship, so yellow is best for a girls night out, versus your first date.

Green represents the wood element, and it is also associated with the heart chakra. Overall, green is such a fantastic color to wear any time! Green represents abundance and money.  It represents the family, growth, and stability.  When you think of lush green trees and plants, you are reminded of Spring and new life.  Wearing green will promote growth, abundance, and expansion.

In feng shui, blue is the color of knowledge. Blue is a fantastic color to wear when you are taking a class or going to school. You will soak up more knowledge wearing blue.  In addition, blue is associated with the throat chakra, which affects communication. It is a wise choice to wear when you are writing a book or essay. (In fact, I should run and change right now as I write this blog…!) Another great quality about blue is that it represents water and money!  Let the abundance flow and wear some blue today!

Purple is associated with royalty. In ancient Egypt, for example, only the wealthy class could afford the purple dye for their clothing (that’s the 6th grade teacher in me explaining this one…). It goes without saying that if you wear purple you are going to attract more wealth into your life and you will look classy. I am a libra and purple is the libra’s “power color.”  You might want to look up your sign and find out yours too!

In feng shui, black represents the water element. Black activates the career gua!  You would be wise to wear black (and red) to a job interview.  I also like to wear black on days when I have big meetings or when I am being observed (fellow teachers know what I am talking about).  Wearing black is a great way to activate your career and give it a boost!

Finally we have       .  Oh, you couldn’t see the font? White!  White is the color of purity, and it also represents the chakra at the top of the head, your connection to heaven.  You may want to wear a white blouse if you want to feel closer to your Higher Self and connected with Devine intuition.

I really hope you had fun reading today’s post!  As always, I would love to hear if you have any questions or personal feng shui experiences to share! I invite you to join me at my Facebook Page for a daily dose of positivity on your newsfeed!

What Does Diamond Shape ‘Got to Do’ with Your Relationship?

halo-princess-engagement-rings1
Finding the “right” diamond is not a one-time deal.  It can transform and evolve with your relationship.

OK ladies, let’s talk diamonds!  What does feng shui reveal about the meaning of each diamond shape? Whether you are still looking for the perfect diamond, or if you already have one, this article is for YOU.   This post explains what the different ring shapes represent. I also give you tips on how you can modify your wedding ring to transform your relationship!

Princess Cut (Square) Diamond: The square shape in feng shui signifies stability.  The square represents the Earth element.  If you have a square diamond your relationship will be deeply rooted and down-to-earth.

Round or Oval Diamond: The circle in feng shui represents the metal element. It enhances communication and clairvoyance.  If you have the classic round diamond, you probably have excellent communication with your significant other.  You also are probably have a keen sixth sense with your partner, and you know what the other is thinking or feeling before they even speak up.

Princess Cut (Square) Diamond with a Round Halo: This is a very special combination.  It represents “Heaven & Earth.”  The square represents Earth and the circle represents heaven (connections to ascended masters and angels). If you have this combination, your Earthly connection is protected by heaven.  You will always be able to tap into your Higher Power during difficult times and find comfort and refuge.

Round Diamond with Square Halo: In this case, the Earth element is surrounding the spiritual element. This ring combination could signify that your connection is deeply spiritual with great communication.  Your relationship is also surrounded and supported by the Earth, so you probably have a lot of Earthly supports in your relationship and your material needs are always met.

Princess Cut with Square Halo: This simply means that the Earth element is strongly enhanced.  So, your relationship is even more grounded.  You have deep family roots and a strong commitment to each other.

“Round edges will ’round out’ any ‘rough edges’ in your relationship.”

Emerald Cut: The Emerald cut is an elongated, vertical rectangular shape with rounded edges. This signifies the wood element.  If you have this cut diamond you will find that you are deeply dedicated to your family. Also, round edges will “round out” any “rough edges” in your relationship.  In fact, this is true for all rings. Which leads to my next point…

If you want to have better communication or “round out” rough edges in your relationship, add a halo with rounded edges to your ring. If you feel like you need a more grounded, deeply rooted connection, add a square halo to your ring.  The BEST part about feng shui is that you can always make adjustments to modify and elevate your current circumstances.

Is this post TRUE for you?  Please share your insights!  Did I miss your diamond shape?  Let me know and I will fill you in! I also invite you to “like” my Facebook page  for occasional tips on your newsfeed.

The Feng Shui Relationship Secret

love-heart-clouds-blue-sky-604

Have you been looking for love in all the wrong places?  Well, according the feng shui begua map, maybe you have been!  There is a little feng shui relationship secret that I would like to share with you, and it has nothing to do with the relationship area of your home!

You may have heard feng shui relationship tips before.  Place pairs of objects in the relationship gua to attract a partner.  Add red accents or two candles to get the spark and passion back. But the secret to really attracting the right person, or improving your current relationship, all depends on the Wisdom and Knowledge area of your home.  So let’s refocus our attention there, and I will give you three suggestions you can do to activate that area and boost your relationship!

How to Enhance the Wisdom and Knowledge Area to Attract the Right Person

  1. This area is located at the front of your home to the far left.  It is activated by the Earth element.  Therefore, the shape of the square, flowers, and earth tones (such as sand or even deep blue) will work great here.  These colors “ground” you and will help you plant your feet more firmly into who you truly are.  The purpose of activating the wisdom and knowledge area is so that you can learn to go within yourself and know what you really want.  If you don’t know what you really want, how could you attract the right person? Or, how could you tell your partner what it is you really want?
  2. Keep books in this area on topics about relationships, self-empowerment, or anything else that you wish to know more about.  If you take some time to read in this space, it will help you to reflect on who you are.  I have a blue chair in the knowledge area of my home.  It has become my favorite place to read and learn more  about my life purpose and what I want.  Even though I am in a relationship, spending time within still helps me to articulate what I need and keep the communication flowing.
  3. Do you spend time in the Knowledge area of your home? Do you have a cluttered closet in that space? Try to spend 5 minutes in that area everyday this week.  Take time to organize it, clean it, and just be.  You may have been avoiding this space and “running away from yourself.” The fact that you are reading this shows that you are ready to be true to yourself and attract the right person into your life.

One of my favorite Sex and the City quotes is:  “…the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”  So focus on you for a little while, and all the rest will fall into place.

Until next time,

How can numbers guide you?

namaste

What is your favorite number? Look out for repeated numbers like 111 or 888. These are signs meant just for you. In feng shui, each number has a different meaning. I look for signs all the time on license plates and other random sources throught the day. Numbers are everywhere, and they can encourage and guide you throughout your day.

The numbers 1-9 are listed below.  The representations listed are a combination of number meanings in feng shui, as well as from the “Angel Numbers 101” app and book by Doreen Virtue.
Here is a quick look at what these numbers could be trying to tell you:
1- New beginning. Its’a great time to start a new project or endeavor. The 11:11 or other repeats of this number are signs that your thoughts are materializing rapidly so keep focused on what you want, not what you don’t want. Your wishes are coming true!
2- Partnership and Relationship. You are learning to compramise. Everything is working out exactly as it is supposed to.
3- This represents balance (mind, body and soul). It can also represent Jesus or other ascended masters who are with you. Finally, 5 is the number of the family gua.  It represents financial security and that all of your bills will be paid and taken care of.
4- This number represents wealth in feng shui. Repeated 4’s can also be a sign that the angels are with you.
5- A “balanced” number in feng shui. When looking at numbers 1-9, 5 is right in the middle. This number can also represent change. A number such as “555” could be a sure sign that many positive changes are coming your way, so welcome them with open arms. It is also a sign of “out with the old and in with the new.”
6- Represents helfpul people. It is also a sign to give all material worries to God and your angels. Remember that our thoughts materialize, so keep them positive and focused on what you want.
7- 7 is a spiritual number. If you see a “7” know that you are on the right path and you are connected to your higher power. You have the “midas touch” and everything is working out in your favor. Think of the slot machines. “777” is always a win!
8- This is the sign of infinite abundance. 8 connects heaven and Earth. If you see this, know that your prayers about money have been heard and you are being taken care of.
9- This is most powerful number in feng shui. It represents energy and the completion of long term projects and goals. You are ready for the next phase of your career. Even if you don’t feel prepared, have confidence knowing that you have learned all of the prerequisites and all of your experiences have led you exactly where you need to be in this moment.
I hope you found this helpful, and I would be happy answer an questions. Enjoy finding numbers everywhere and let them lead you to your fullest potential and destiny!
Until next time,

How to Peacefully Fulfill Your Dreams

sunset-over-water-e1358809211421

Today was the first day of PARCC testing for my sixth graders. My team and I were e-mailing each other if we had questions. One of our concerns was,”Which button do we have to press at the end of the session?  Log Out or Submit?” In the end, it was clear as day which button the students had to hit!  The moral of the story is we spent so much time anticipating a problem that did not even exist.  How many times to we create obstacles along our path that, in reality, are just illusions? Instead of worrying about how you will accomplish your goals, here are three steps to accomplishing your goals while maintaining inner peace.

Step One: Admit You are Trying to Control Everything.

Admitting your flaws is the first step to healing them! I am always eager to accomplish goals and experience the next big thing: a new house, advancement in my career, and another degree… There is nothing wrong with setting goals, but obsessing over them causes fabricated stress.

It is not every day that we can harvest the fruits of our labor. Of course those moments are rewarding: when we finally close on that house, earn that degree, get engaged, or land that dream job.  The reality is that most days we are sowing the seeds of our dreams and working towards them. It is not always glamorous, and there are usually many unknown and unpredictable factors. This is what causes us to feel frazzled and why we try to control the process. We allow fears and doubts to overcome us, but many times these are just illusions. The goal is to have a more positive focus when stepping in the direction of our dreams.

Step Two: Let Go and Pay Attention

Instead of controlling the pathway your dreams step-by-step, try to be open to a creative solution or alternative version of your dream. Dr. Wayne Dyer always said, “pay attention.” Simply pay attention to the clues around you and you will be guided to your dreams or something better!  This is a practical way of “actively letting go.”  So even though you are “letting go,” your are still “doing” something.

Here is how this paradox works. After you set your intentions of what you want for yourself, go about your  regular day-to-day activities.  Be aware of your surroundings and live in the present moment; you will be guided in the right direction. Maybe you will see a “For Sale” sign that you never noticed before, or you will have a conversation with someone random that leads you to a connection that you need. You never know how things will work out, but if you pay attention to the signs, you’ll be guided step by step. It sort of turns into a game, and it can actually be fun watching your dreams unfold in creative ways. Helpful people and opportunities are all around you, all you have to do is keep an open heart and mind.

Step Three: Take Small Action Steps

Take a little step every single day in the direction of your dreams and watch those seeds you have planted grow. One of my goals is to become a published author, but that will only happen if I…um…write! It took everything I had this evening to walk away from the clean pile of unfolded laundry that is overtaking my bed.  After spending nearly two hours of cooking and cleaning in the kitchen and putting our toddler to bed, I could have easily kept on going with what “has to be done.” But I had an ah-ha moment today that made me realize that if I don’t start doing what I love TODAY, then I am going to miss out on what is really important in life.

If you want to start a side business, walk away from the TV and start working on your web site or blog. Maybe your goal is to look and feel better about yourself.  Instead of vacuuming, take the extra time to pre-cut veggies for a healthy snack or steal those 15 minutes to do a workout on YouTube. There will always be more dishes and laundry.  You need to take time for yourself and step into the direction of your dreams.  After 10 minutes you can go back to that pile of laundry on your bed and start folding…

I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes by Jack Canfield, “You are not given a dream unless you have the capacity to fulfill it.”  I believe that we are each given specific desires in life because it is part of our mission and dharma here on this Earth. Follow your heart.  You would not be given a dream unless you had the ability to accomplish it, and you might as well have fun while you are doing it! I hope you follow the signs that bring you closer to your personal success and enjoy the ride!

Until next time, namaste!
