Everyone Has A Book Inside Of Them

13720431_757066770976_1587901433_o

The moment I found the courage to start writing a book, was the moment I heard Reid Tracy, the CEO of Hay House, say that we all have a book inside of us. “Everyone has a story to tell.” He was confident that anyone could make a positive impact on the world if they spoke up and shared their tale.

Something about Reid Tracy’s message awakened a deep longing in me to share my story. I found myself in the audience of the Chicago Writer’s Workshop. Despite the inspirational messages from Louise Hay and Doreen Virtue (more on them later), all I could think of was how much I needed to shake Reid’s hand.  There could not be more than 400 people here; it was a fairly intimate venue. I just had to tell him how grateful I was that he and his Hay House family followed their calling and found their voice to encourage everyday people like me to follow my calling and find my voice.

“The only thing that really matters when it comes to being a writer: getting out of your own way, and getting rid of the countless negative thoughts that tell you what a hopelessly uninteresting specimen of humanity you are.”*

Reid had been doing these Hay House Writer’s Workshops for a while. When I approached him, he might have thought I was going try to sneak my manuscript in his back pocket like so many others have before me. (I actually didn’t even have one at time, so you were in the clear, Reid). It caught him off guard when all I wanted to say to him was a sincere “thank you.”

I walked up to Reid nervously, but I knew I had to talk with him. This could be my only chance. “Thank you for helping a regular person like me to believe in myself,” I was actually saying it. “Thank you for supporting Wayne Dyer’s important life mission to help people tune into their higher self and fulfill their Dharma.”His eyes teared up at the mention of his best friend’s name, and he knew at that moment that Wayne was still very much alive in the hearts of so many. When I finished telling Reid how great of an impact he and Hay House had on the course of my life, I said with smile,  “…and that’s it.” Reid looked at me as if he was shocked that I didn’t pitch my book to him. After a slight hesitation, he gave me a huge hug. That hug meant the world to me. I didn’t even get a picture with him! All I have is this testimony. In this age of Twitter and Instagram it feels like without a picture it never really happened, but you believe me don’t you?

So what did that hug say to me? And what is the message for you, my fellow aspiring authors and light workers?

After Reid hugged me, I knew.  I knew that he truly believed in people and their ability to connect and inspire.  He followed his heart to encourage others, and just like one candle lights another, he lit a spark within me.

You can be someone else’s light too.  Speak your truth.  Stop keeping it to yourself and shine. The world needs your light. You could be the next Oprah (or meet her at the very least). We are all born with the capacity to fulfill our dreams and desires; you dreams are your Dharma And they were given uniquely to you. Like a rose, some of us will open up into full bloom.  Yet some will not.  It is up to you to grow to your fullest capacity.

Let’s look at Gabby Bernstein for example. She is is a well-known a professional motivational speaker, author, and life coach, and she has been featured on Oprah numerous times. But like all of us, Gabby did not start at the top. A NYC girl, started her journey to her greatness when she got involved in alcoholics anonymous (AA).  As a sponsor for other people who were also recovering addicts, she found her voice (and her hidden talent to speak up and inspire). This is where she discovered that the world needed her light, and she started teaching others that “the world needs your light.”

This is my wish for you too. Please know you have infinite possibilities to fulfill your life purpose. We all do. If it were not for the spiritual teachers in my life who followed their inner voice and spoke up to inspire others, I might not have ever started writing my book. It’s because of teachers like Dr. Wayne Dyer, Doreen Virtue, Louise Hay, and Reid Tracy that I have explored my passion for feng shui even deeper and started sharing out.

Learn to ignore the ego. The ego is the voice that “Edges God Out.”  The ego tells you that your idea has been done before, that you are not good enough, or that you are not capable. The ego tells you what you have to say is not important, but we all have something important to say if we come from our Higher Self and speak our truth. Don’t keep it to yourself. If it’s for the greater good, please raise your voice. We need more people like you right now, more than ever. So what is burning in your heart today? There is no time like the now to get started.

Until next time,

Namaste!

Three Steps to Feng Shui Your Classroom

PicCollage.png

Hey teachers, this one is for you! I wanted to post three ideas to bring the tranquility of your summer break back with you into your classroom. Since this is my very first post about how to feng shui your classroom, I would like to start with a disclaimer about what feng shui is NOT.  This has helped put my mind at ease when applying feng shui principles to enhance the classroom atmosphere:

Feng shui is not a religion, nor does it preach any religious tenet.  It predates Taoism, Confucianism, and even Buddhism.  The first Amendment Center, which works to preserve and protect First Amendment freedoms through information and education, has approved the organizational tips embodied by feng shui.  Feng shui does not infringe upon anyone’s freedom of religion.  (Heiss, 2004)

I found this point extremely important to mention so that you and I both can be at peace knowing that any and all of the feng shui tips provided are always in the best interest of our students’ well-being, and it is not a religion, so you will not be impeding on anyone’s beliefs.

“Research supports feng shui.  If the environment is balanced students will learn easier.” (Heiss, 2004)

So, what IS feng shui?  According to Feng Shui for the Classroom 101 Easy-to-Use ideas,Feng shui teaches a method of organization and appreciation for harmony.  It helps people to become balanced in their environment and within themselves.” Since we are just getting started, allow me to share three easy ways to incorporate feng shui into your classroom next year!

#1 Bring in fresh energy with plants

Your classroom will probably be fresh and ready to go on the first day of school.  However, as the year progresses the air can get stale.  Bamboo survives very well in low light, but if you have another plant preference that would work too.  Adding plants will bring in fresh oxygen and keep you and your students feeling fresh all year.  I love giving students who need a little extra attention the job of watering the plant.  It gets them moving with purpose and gives them a sense of responsibility.

#2 Add Yin energy with music, low lighting, and aromatherapy

Our classrooms already have a lot of yang, or active energy, by nature. The bright florescent lights, electronics, and the energy of many children in a contained space all contribute to the yang energy.  So, it is important to balance the environment by adding softer energy to the space.  If you do this, you will find the students will concentrate better and be more receptive during instruction.  Here are ways to add yin energy:

  • Play classical or other relaxing music as students work
  • Turn off the lights during instruction time on the SMART board, and turn them back on when it is time for the students to work.
  • Use lavender Sage Spray or other relaxing aromas to clear the energy of the room and give a more peaceful atmosphere.

#3 Try feng shui in your own home.

It has been my experience that using feng shui at my home has really helped me find more balance in my life.  A happier, more centered teacher makes for happier students!  I promise you if you start applying feng shui to your home, even just your bedroom, you will see a transfer from your personal to your professional life.

Well, that’s it for now my teacher friends!  I will be posting more tips throughout the summer on Twitter at #fengshuiclassroom.  As always, I welcome you to “like” my Facebook Page or  find me at www.KristinaHollinger.com.

Until next time,

Namaste!

How Feng Shui Found Me: Would You Keep Reading On? I Want to Know!

13639527_755885588076_1437985470_o

There I was, newly married and living in the city. I had a new teaching job and a new workout regimen that kept me busy. My husband and I had finally emerged from the credit card debt that accumulated from planning a downtown wedding.  So I guess things were starting to look up. Maybe it was the post-wedding blues (supposedly that’s “a thing”), but I still felt like something was missing and longed for something more.  From the outside things seemed to be going pretty good, so what was wrong?

As I looked around our Chicago South Loop apartment, I had an uneasy feeling.  The walls were all stark white and hadn’t been painted since we moved in three years ago.  In my spare time, I decided I would start to spruce up the place, make it a little more welcoming and comfortable. That’s when I discovered feng shui.

To my surprise, the months following my feng shui enhancements were a total whirlwind, in a good way! My husband and I found out we were expecting our first baby, and he had gotten an exciting advancement in his career.  Things started to look up, and I started to feel less uneasy and more fulfilled in my day-to-day life.  More importantly, that new-calm was transferred to my second home, which was my classroom.  When you create a flow of consistency between your personal and professional life, you can breath easier. Life just feels lighter!
This knowledge was all too good to keep to myself, so I decided to earn a Feng Shui Consultant Certification through the Feng Shui School of Chicago with Laurie Pawlie.  I became a Red Ribbon Professional Member of the International Feng Shui Guild in 2016. Although I knew I wanted to help others heal their lives with feng shui, in my heart I wanted to do something more.  So, I started a book… Here is a preview.  I want to know, would you keep reading?

Why feng shui?

Why do I suggest feng shui? Feng shui is a tangible way that you can minimize your problems or frustrations.  When something in your life feels uneasy, you can address it head-on in a physical way instead of stewing over it in your mind.  Feng shui allows you to visually see your environment change, and it gives you hope for your future.  I’ve seen it work in my own life and in my clients’ lives.

“Exterior movement creates interior shifts.”  Once you start removing the layers of unnecessary objects or things that no longer make you feel good, you start to feel better instantly. You start to remove blocks and see things more clearly.

Although there are not necessarily three steps to feng shui a room, I have broken it down for you.  I am a “list person,” and I love to check the boxes as I complete tasks.  So, for my fellow list people, these three feng shui steps are for you: declutter, enhance the using the elements, and seal it with intention.

How do you feng shui?

Here is a brief overview of how feng shui works. Feng shui literally is translated as wind and water. The “wind” is the invisible force of energy that you are always feeling.  Every space you enter has a different vibe. Think of a place where you have felt the most relaxed. Perhaps you were on the beach listening to the waves crash against to coast, or you have been to a spa where you smell the aroma of the massage oils and lotions. We can create positive feelings with an invisible force. By shifting our inner thoughts and our intention, we can manifest the life we desire.

The “water” represents the physical aspect of feng shui.  We can see water, just as you can see how a room appears.  The way the room is arranged will create the feeling too.  This is the tangible aspect of feng shui that really makes it easy for practical realists to see major life changes.  This is the outer aspect of feng shui which focuses on how you place the furniture and what types of colors, patterns, and other decor work well in a particular space. The idea is that you can create the feelings you desire simply by adjusting your environment.

Professor Lin Yun’s definition of feng shui is as follows:

Feng Shui is the method that people naturally use to choose and locate, build and construct, or adapt and change their working and living environments for maximum health, wealth, and well-being according to the knowledge then available.”

When I heard Professor’s definition I was relieved! Considering before I earned my certification I had been a “Master of the ‘feng shui’ Google search.” The more I learned about feng shui from professional instructors, the more I realized that I had some misunderstandings about it.  As you learn about feng shui, you may do some things that are not necessarily accurate, but that is OK!  According to this definition, you are going to do the best you can with the knowledge you have.  As you learn more about the topic, you will be able to make adjustments that serve you better and better as time goes on.

What you need to know to get started!

What you really need to know to get started is that you have the power to change nine areas of your life with the help of feng shui. Using a tool called the bagua map, you will be able to see which area of your home, office, or classroom connects to specific areas of your life.  The nine areas are: wealth, reputation, relationships, children & creativity, health, family, knowledge, career, and helpful people & travel. Ideally, a feng shui home will have good flowing energy in all nine areas, but it takes time. I would recommed focusing on one gua at a time.

Just as life is ever-changing, so must your feng shui practice continue to evolve.  Once you declutter a space and decorate, you will need to check in on that area of your home from time to time to keep it healthy.  The knowledge of feng shui is a very powerful tool that you can use as situations arise in your life.  Using the bagua map, you can address any area of life and see results almost immediately!

So, let’s stop there… would you keep reading?  I am happy to give you more details on the three steps to start feng shui on your own!  I have a free two-page guide that makes it super simple.  You can find me on Facebook or at KristinaHollinger.com  Or check out the video below that outlines the three steps! Thank you for allowing me to join you on the start of your feng shui journey!

Until next time,

Namaste!

How to Feng Shui Your Closet

When I get ready for any occasion, I always think about the kind of vibe I want to give off or how I want to feel.  According to feng shui, all colors radiate different vibrations and enhance different emotions.  Here is a quick look at what the colors represent so that you are ready to move forward confidently at your next job interview or date.  Knowing what color is best to wear will simply help elevate your energy, and who doesn’t want that, right?

Let’s talk about red! It is the most energetic color in the feng shui. Red is a great color to wear at a job interview or to an important meeting.  Red says, “I know what I’m doing.  I am confident, and you should take me seriously.” Red is a fire color, so it represents passion.  You could wear red if you are looking to attract more passion in your relationship, or to “spark things up” in your career.

Yellow represents the Earth element and good health. Yellow is a great color to wear to enhance your immune system.  It also goes without saying that yellow is a cheerful color and it can uplift your emotional wellness too. In general, yellow is associated with friendship, so yellow is best for a girls night out, versus your first date.

Green represents the wood element, and it is also associated with the heart chakra. Overall, green is such a fantastic color to wear any time! Green represents abundance and money.  It represents the family, growth, and stability.  When you think of lush green trees and plants, you are reminded of Spring and new life.  Wearing green will promote growth, abundance, and expansion.

In feng shui, blue is the color of knowledge. Blue is a fantastic color to wear when you are taking a class or going to school. You will soak up more knowledge wearing blue.  In addition, blue is associated with the throat chakra, which affects communication. It is a wise choice to wear when you are writing a book or essay. (In fact, I should run and change right now as I write this blog…!) Another great quality about blue is that it represents water and money!  Let the abundance flow and wear some blue today!

Purple is associated with royalty. In ancient Egypt, for example, only the wealthy class could afford the purple dye for their clothing (that’s the 6th grade teacher in me explaining this one…). It goes without saying that if you wear purple you are going to attract more wealth into your life and you will look classy. I am a libra and purple is the libra’s “power color.”  You might want to look up your sign and find out yours too!

In feng shui, black represents the water element. Black activates the career gua!  You would be wise to wear black (and red) to a job interview.  I also like to wear black on days when I have big meetings or when I am being observed (fellow teachers know what I am talking about).  Wearing black is a great way to activate your career and give it a boost!

Finally we have       .  Oh, you couldn’t see the font? White!  White is the color of purity, and it also represents the chakra at the top of the head, your connection to heaven.  You may want to wear a white blouse if you want to feel closer to your Higher Self and connected with Devine intuition.

I really hope you had fun reading today’s post!  As always, I would love to hear if you have any questions or personal feng shui experiences to share! I invite you to join me at my Facebook Page for a daily dose of positivity on your newsfeed!

Until next time,

Namaste!

The Facebook “Like” That Changed My Life

13621640_755884545166_188369021_o

If you would have told me a year ago I would be a mother, teacher, AND a feng shui consultant, I would not have believed you.  One simple Facebook “like” changed the course of my life forever. While in the North Carolina on a family vacation over the 4th of July weekend, I came across Wayne Dyer’s page.  After liking his page, I was guided to multiple tools that inspired me, centered me, and completely changed the course of my path! Wayne introduced me to Hay House radio and all of his amazing friends there. Sadly, he passed away suddenly about a month after “liking” his page.  Thereafter, his best friend Reid Tracy, the CEO of Hay House, honored Wayne’s life by selling all of his books on Amazon Kindle for a major discount.  Months after Wayne’s passing, I was surrounded by his message, “Don’t die with your music still in you.” Because of him, I decided to follow my dharma, my heart, my life purpose. I’m here to share with you the three tools that saved me.  Maybe you can use all three, maybe only one will speak to you today.   As the one year anniversary of Wayne’s death approaches, I feel so compelled to honor his voice and share with you three things that might help you live your purpose NOW.

1. Doreen Virtue’s Angel Numbers, Tarot Cards, and Beyond…

I really credit my life-altering decision to go into feng shui professionally to the angels. Everyone, you and I included, has the ability to communicate with angels and get Spiritual guidance. The best part is, they are alway positive and send their messages lovingly. After “liking” Wayne’s page, he shared Doreen Virtue’s Angel Numbers app on his page.  Some of you know Doreen Virtue PhD. as “The Angel Lady,” but I had never heard of her until downloading this application.  I absolutely fell in love with her positive approach.  She basically gives positive, motivating affirmations (that the angels send to you through numbers you see throughout the day).  You can use this application all day to help you reach your greatest potential and feel fulfilled.  I then downloaded some of her tarot cards.  Communicating with angels was never anything that I thought I could do, but she makes it so easy.  They are our spiritual guides, and she has provided tools that give you accurate guidance and answers. The beyond part was the Angels of Abundance course that I signed up with Doreen and her son Grant.  It was such a healing four part course that changed the way I look at money and allowing more abundance into my life!

2. Numerology

I have always been interested in numerology, and I truly think EVERYONE should know their personal numbers.  They show you why you are here on this Earth.  What is your purpose?  What is your soul’s longing?  Some of us are here to learn how to be loving and supportive mothers or fathers.  Some of us are here to help animals or help the environment.  There are many, many lessons that we are here to learn, and your numbers give you guidance and help you understand some of the heartache and karmic problems that you may have faced. We all want these kinds of answers.  I found Hay House author Michelle Buchanan through Wayne’s page, and it has been most helpful!  But please let me know any other recommendations you have!

3. Feng Shui

Well, if you didn’t know by now, I was guided to make a career of feng shui (the practice of designing your environment to get results you want in your life).  After “liking” Wayne’s page, I was introduced to his Morning Manifestation Meditation app.  That’s right, I started to meditate daily.  This opened my heart and mind to my true calling and desire to help others in a new way.  Everyday I learned more and more about what made me happy, and I learned that I have the ability to help others feel self-empowered.  You have a voice too!  We all have a voice, but we just need to courage and strength to use it.  Feng shui has helped me a live a more balanced and harmonious life.  It has been the greatest gift.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.  I welcome you to visit my Facebook Page!  Thanks to Wayne, I am now sharing my light with the world, and I hope you will too.  “Don’t die with your music still in you.”

Until Next time,

Namaste!
